Toprol (Generic name: Metoprolol) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and chest pain (angina). Toprol is also used to treat heart failure and reduce the risk that a heart attack will recur. Metoprolol belongs to a type of drug called beta blocker. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulatory system (blood flow through arteries and veins). Take Metoprolol Toprol exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Toprol Side Effects:
The most common Toprol side effects are constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, tiredness, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams, vision problems, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as blistering or peeling skin, chest pain, easy bruising or bleeding, fainting, jaundice (yellow eyes or skin), persistent fever, vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing, hives, rash, swelling of the lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.
Toprol Precautions:
Do NOT take Toprol oral if you are allergic to Metoprolol or other beta blockers. Before taking Toprol, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as breathing problems, diabetes, circulatory disease, depression, heart failure, liver or kidney disease, muscle disease, overactive thyoid disease, and skin conditions. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may contain ingredients that could increase your blood pressure or heart rate, especially of: alpha-blockers, antidepressants, anti-diabetics, calcium channel blockers, digixin, epinephrine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), psychiatric drugs, other drugs to treat heart problem, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid disease. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
