Flonase (Fluticasone Propionate) belongs to the class of medications called corticosteroids. It is used to treat nasal symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and runny nose caused by seasonal or year-round allergies. It can be used to manage symptoms such as sinus pain and pressure associated with allergic rhinitis. It may take 2 to 3 days for the medication to reach its full effect. Some people might not see the full effects of this medication for at least two weeks.

We currently have the brand from UK and Turkey manufactured by GSK and the generic (also called Flomist by Cipla) from India. Flonase comes in a nasal spray device (Pirinase Allergy) and nasule form (Flixonase Nasule). Brand Flonase is available in strengths of 50 mcg/60 dose and 50 mcg/120 dose. Generic Fluticasone is available in a single strength of 50 mcg/100 dose.
Contact your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
• Any wound that will not heal;
• Blurred vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights;
• Flu symptoms, fever, chills, weakness, nausea, vomiting;
• Noisy breathing, runny nose, or crusting around your nostrils;
• Redness, sores, or white patches in your mouth or throat;
• Severe or ongoing nosebleeds
Less serious side effects include
• Burning, dryness, or other irritation inside the nose;
• Cough or sore throat;
• Headache;
• Sinus pain or runny nose;
• Sores or white patches inside or around the nose
You should not use Flonase if you are allergic to fluticasone nasal, or if you are also taking ritonavir (Norvir, Kaletra). Flonase can lower blood cells that help your body fight infections. Avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Do not give this medication to a child younger than 2 years old without medical advice. Steroid medication can affect growth in children. Talk to your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while using this medication. It is unknown whether Flonase will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to be come pregnant while using this medication. It is unknown whether fluticasone passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not take this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
