Usage

Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is a prescription medication that is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including those that cause acne, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, periodontitis, chlamydia, and others. This medication is also used to prevent malaria. Vibramycin is a tetracycline antibiotic. It works by slowing the growth of bacteria. Vibramycin is an antibiotic that treats bacterial infections only; it will not work for viral infections such as the common cold or flu. Vibramycin capsules are best taken by mouth on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after a meal, usually one or two times daily or as directed by your doctor.

Side Effects and Precautions

Signs of Vibramycin (doxycycline) allergy: difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and upset stomach. Let your doctor know right away if you have:
• Blurred or double vision;
• Decreased vision;
• Painful or difficulty swallowing;
• Persistent or severe headache;
• Persistent nausea or vomiting;
• Signs of kidney problems;
• Sudden blindness

Warnings and Interactions

You should not take Vibramycin if you are allergic to Doxycycline or other tetracycline antibiotics such as minocycline, tigecycline, and tetracycline. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical history especially of trouble swallowing, and esophagus problems. Talk to your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and herbal supplements. There may be a drug interaction between Doxycycline and other medications such as isotretinoin, warfarin, digoxin, carbamazepine, etc. Do not use any antibiotic unless it is necessary because it can lead to its decreased effectiveness. Doxycycline may cause live bacterial vaccines to not work as well. You should not have an immunizations or vaccinations while you are using Vibramycin. This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Stay out of direct sunlight, wear protective clothing, and apply sunblock. Do not use a sun lamp or a tanning bed. Vibramycin should not be used during pregnancy as it may harm an unborn baby. This medication passes into breast milk but is not likely to harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
