Androcur is used to treat advanced prostate cancer. It may also be used to control hypersexuality in men. Androcur belongs to a class of drugs called steroidal antiandrogens. This medication works by causing a reduction in the production of testosterone in the testicles, which prostate cancer cells require for growth.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Androcur may include decreased sex drive, dry skin, dizziness, flushing of the face or neck, headache, male breast enlargement or tenderness, nausea, temporary loss of patches of body hair, upset stomach, and weakness.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Breast lumps;
• Easy bleeding or bruising;
• Fast heartbeat;
• Increased thirst or urination;
• Mental or mood changes;
• New or worsening bone pain;
• Rapid changes in weight;
• Signs of liver problems;
• Signs of infection;
• Swelling (ankles or feet)

You should not take Androcur if you are allergic to Cyproterone or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you have ever had:
• Blood clots;
• Decreased adrenal gland function;
• Depression;
• Diabetes;
• Heart disease;
• Kidney disease;
• Meningioma
This medication may affect your blood sugar if you have diabetes; check your blood sugar regularly. This medication may make you dizzy or very tired. Alcohol and marijuana can make you more dizzy or tired. Do not drive, use machinery or do anything that requires you to be alert until you can do it safely. Androcur may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun and use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when you are outdoors. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Androcur and other medications. This medication may affect fertility in males. Androcur should not be used by women. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle this medication or breathe the dust from the tablets. This medication should not be used in children.
