Fosamax (Alendronate Sodium) is a prescription medication that used for the treatment of osteoporosis caused by menopause, steroid use or gonadal failure. This medication is also used to increase bone mass in men who have osteoporosis and to treat Paget’s disease of bone in men and women. Alendronate Sodium belongs to the class of drugs called bisphosphonates. It works by slowing bone loss which helps maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of fractures.
