Description

Generic Name: silodosin

Drug Class: alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist

What is Rapaflo?

Rapaflo is an oral prescription drug used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate. It relieves symptoms, such as difficulty initiating urine flow, weak stream, and frequent or urgent urination. This is not indicated for the treatment of hypertension.

Rapaflo Dosage

This is available in Rapaflo 8 mg and 4 mg capsules.

Rapaflo Mechanism of Action

This selective antagonist of postsynaptic alpha-1 adrenoreceptors works by blocking the alpha-1 adrenoreceptors, which leads to the relaxation of smooth muscles in tissues in the prostate, bladder base, bladder neck, prostatic urethra, and prostatic capsule. This results in the reduction of BPH symptoms and improvement in urine flow.

How to Take Rapaflo

Before starting to take Rapaflo, it is necessary to read the information leaflet or medication guide given by a healthcare professional. You must not take any medication unless you have understood the uses and directions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for further medical advice or additional details.

This capsule is only meant to be taken by mouth. This is usually prescribed once a day, with a meal. Swallow the capsule entirely and drink fluids right after. Chewing, crushing, or cutting this product is not recommended.

Make a dosing schedule. Do not increase or decrease your Rapaflo dose. You should also not take this oral drug more frequently than advised. Your doctor may start prescribing a low dose and gradually increase it to avoid the risk of a sudden drop in blood pressure.
