Cozaar Uses

Cozaar (generic name: losartan potassium) is an oral medication indicated to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) among adults and children 6 years of age and above. By lowering blood pressure, the risk of stroke or heart attack could be reduced. This is also used to treat diabetic nephropathy with elevated serum creatinine and proteinuria among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension.

This is available in Cozaar 100 mg, 50 mg, and 25 mg tablet forms.

Cozaar Mechanism of Action

This angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) works by hampering the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II through selective blocking of the binding of angiotensin II to angiotensin I receptor found in tissues. As a result, blood vessels get to relax, allowing blood to flow more easily.

How to use Cozaar

Make sure to read the medication guide or information leaflet that comes with this product. Avoid taking this type of medication if you have not yet fully understood the drug information and instructions in the guide provided. If you need more medical advice or have queries on using this oral drug, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take the tablet orally. This is usually prescribed once daily. It may be taken with or without a meal or as directed by your physician. Swallow the medication and drink a glass of water thereafter. If you need to split or crush the drug, ask for supervision from your pharmacist.

Remember to use this medication regularly and exactly as prescribed for full benefits. Make a dosing schedule. Your Cozaar dosage should not be altered as it depends on your age, medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you are taking. Also, do not stop taking this medication abruptly because doing so may lead to worsening conditions.
