The active ingredient in Prolixin is Fluphenazine. Fluphenazine belongs to a class of drugs called phenothiazines. It is also referred to as a neuroleptic. It works by affecting the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Regular use of Prolixin reduces episodes of bizarre behaviors, delusions, and hallucinations in patients with schizophrenia.
