Pharixia (Benzydamine hydrochloride) is a prescription oral rinse used to reduce pain and inflammation in the mouth or throat. The oral rinse provides immediate but temporary relief for mouth sores caused by radiation therapy and sore throats. Exposure to second-hand smoke, allergies, and viruses can cause a sore throat and other mouth conditions. The active ingredient in Pharixia is Benzydamine hydrochloride. Benzydamine hydrochloride belongs to a class of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by inhibiting prostaglandin production to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

We currently offer the brand Pharixia from Canada manufactured by Pendopharm Pharmascience in the strength of 0.15%/250ml oral rinse. The generic Benzydamine hydrochloride is not available.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Pharixia. The most common side effects of Pharixia may include the following:
• Cough;
• Drowsiness;
• Headache;
• Mouth dryness;
• Nausea;
• Throat irritation;
• Vomiting
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Breathing difficulties;
• Itching;
• Numbness;
• Rash;
• Skin swelling;
• Wheezing
These are not all of the side effects of Pharixia. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not use Pharixia if you are allergic to Benzydamine hydrochloride or any ingredient in Pharixia. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have kidney problems
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Pharixia and other medicines. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Pharixia should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risk. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Use Pharixia precisely as prescribed by your doctor. You can use the bottle cap as a measure when using this medication. Gargle with the liquid in your mouth for 20-30 seconds. Do not swallow. Pharixia oral rinse should provide relief within seven days of use. If there is no improvement, see your doctor for advice. Do not use Pharixia for more than seven days unless your doctor advises. You may experience drowsiness when using this oral rinse. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness. Do not stop using this medication without talking to your doctor. Do not share Pharixia with someone else, even if they have the same symptoms. Keep Pharixia and other medicines out of sight and reach of children. Store this medication in a cool, dry place, away from heat and sunlight.
