Indications

Nalcrom is a medication that contains the active ingredient sodium cromoglicate.

Nalcrom is used for the treatment of food allergies, specifically when adequate investigations have been done.

Use and Dosage

The usual recommended adult dose of this medication is 2 capsules 4 times daily taken 15 to 20 minutes before meals. For children 2 to 14 years of age, the usual recommended dose is one capsule 4 times daily taken 15 to 20 minutes before meals.

Your doctor may suggest a higher dose if your symptoms are not controlled by the usual recommended dose. The maximum dose is 40 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. Once your symptoms are controlled, your doctor may suggest that you decrease your dose until you find the lowest dose that controls your symptoms.

Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Swallow the capsules whole or dissolve the contents of the capsule(s) in a small amount (1 teaspoon) of very hot water and then dilute with 20 mL of cold water to drink.

It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you are not able to avoid the food that you are allergic to, such as when you are at a restaurant, you may be able to take a dose of this medication 15 minutes before the meal.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.

Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.
