Trental (Pentoxifylline Extended Release) is a medication is used to improve blood flow and reduce certain symptoms of intermittent claudication. Trental belongs to a class of drugs called hemorrheologic agents. Trental causes changes in your blood to help improve blood flow and it also helps your blood carry oxygen to your tissues and organs. This helps decrease muscle aches, pain, and cramps while walking and doing exercise.

We currently offer the brand Trental from India (Trental ER) and the United Kingdom (Trental SR) by Sanofi. The generic Pentoxifylline Extended Release also called Pentoxifylline SR comes from Canada by a different manufacturer.
Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Trental may include bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, gas, headache, nausea, upset stomach, and vomiting.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Chest pain;
• Feeling light-headed, like you might faint;
• Fluttering in your chest or pounding heartbeats;
• Red or pink urine;
• Signs of stomach bleeding

Do not take Trental, if you are allergic to caffeine or theophylline or if you have recently had any type of bleeding in your brain or the retina of your eyes. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you use this medication to treat or prevent blood clots or if you have:
• A history of bleeding in your brain or inside your eyes;
• A stomach or intestinal ulcer;
• Coronary artery disease;
• Heart disease;
• History of heart attack or stroke;
• Liver or kidney disease;
• Recently had surgery
Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Trental and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
