Usage

Micronor (Norethindrone) is a prescription contraception pill used to prevent pregnancy in women of reproductive age. Micronor is also used to treat menstrual disorders, endometriosis, and abnormal vaginal bleeding caused by hormonal imbalances. The active ingredient in Micronor is Norethindrone. Norethindrone belongs to a class of medications called progestins. It works by altering the cervical mucus and lining of the womb, thereby causing the thickening of the cervical mucus to prevent pregnancy. It also makes it harder for any fertilized egg to become attached to the wall of the uterus and, therefore, less likely for pregnancy to occur. Micronor is often used by women who cannot take estrogen.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Micronor are nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, headache, vaginal itching, and vaginal spotting.

Stop using Micronor and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Missed menstrual periods;
• Pelvic pain;
• Rapid weight gain;
• Severe headache that doesn't respond to treatment;
• Unexplained, severe, or persistent pains in the head, chest, stomach, or legs;
• Unusual vaginal bleeding

Warnings and Interactions

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to norethindrone or other progestins or have any other allergies. Micronor comes as a pill, and it should be taken orally with a cup of water, usually once daily. Start taking Micronor on the first day of your menstrual period is often recommended. Continue to take one tablet daily following the direction of the arrows around the strip, coinciding with the days of the week until all tablets are finished. After taking the last pill in a pack, start a new pack the next day. To reduce the risk of pregnancy, it is essential to take this medication exactly as prescribed. In case you missed a pill, take the pill as soon as possible, if it means taking two pills in a day. You should know that Micronor is a form of contraception and does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia).

Before you start using Micronor, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• High blood pressure or recent heart attack;
• Kidney disease;
• Known or suspected cancer of the breast, vagina, cervix, ovaries, or womb;
• Liver problems;
• Stroke;
• Unexplained vaginal bleeding

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Birth control should not be used during pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before commencing Micronor. However, if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant while using Micronor, tell your doctor right away. Norethindrone passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. There may be a drug interaction between Micronor and other drugs, such as mifepristone.
