Usage

Canesten vaginal cream (Clotrimazole) is an over-the-counter topical medicine used to treat vaginal thrush (yeast infections) in men and women with yeast infections. The active ingredient in Canesten vaginal cream is Clotrimazole. It belongs to a class of medications called antifungals. It creates holes in the fungi's cell membranes, causing the cell contents to leak. This kills the fungal cells and prevents them from returning. It usually treats thrush within 7 days, but it's best to treat the infection for at least 2 weeks to stop it coming back.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Canesten Vaginal Cream are vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, application site itching, and redness.

Stop using Canesten Vaginal Cream and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Blistering;
• Excoriation from the treated areas;

Warnings and Interactions

Before using this Canesten vaginal cream, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to, Clotrimazole or have other problems when using Canesten vaginal cream. Read the manufacturer's guide and directions on usage carefully. It comes as a cream with an applicator. Insert the intravaginal cream high up into your vagina once daily, preferably at bedtime. The applicator should be inserted gently and deeply into your vagina; slowly depress the plunger to instill the cream. The cream should be applied outside the vagina to relieve the itching and soreness. Avoid contact with the eyes. It is best to complete your treatment before the onset of menstruation. Do not use tampons, douches, or vaginal spermicides while using Canesten vaginal cream. Clotrimazole can damage the latex in condoms and diaphragms. See your doctor before using Clotrimazole if this is your first time experiencing a vaginal yeast infection. If you have more than two occurrences of thrush in six months, speak with your doctor. Do not use Clotrimazole for more than 14 days unless a doctor tells you to. The fungal infection may become resistant, and the medicine may stop working properly. If your symptoms persist for more than 7 days, seek medical help.
