Minocin Information

Minocin Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the generic Minocin (Minocycline) from Canada. The brand Minocin is not available.

Dosage

The generic Minocin is available in the strength of 50 mg and 100 mg capsules.

Usage

Minocin (Minocycline) is a tetracycline-class antibiotic medicine which is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. These include infections of the skin; respiratory tract; urinary tract; some sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhoea; skin infections such as moderate to severe acne; infections of the eye; prostate infections; ear, nose and throat infections; nocardiosis (an infection often affecting the lungs); pelvic inflammatory disease (e.g. salpingitis, oophoritis); preventative treatment for meningitis carriers; preventative treatment before and after surgery and others. Sometimes, other germs, called viruses cause infections such as common cold. Minocin, like other antibiotics, does not treat viruses. Take Minocin capsules exactly as your doctor tells you to take them. Skipping doses or not taking all your Minocin may decrease the effectiveness of the treatment and increase the chance that bacteria will develop resistance to Minocin. Take Minocin with a full glass of liquid as taking Minocin with enough liquid may lower your chance of getting irritation or ulcers in your esophagus. Your esophagus is the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. Minocin capsules may be taken with or without food. Minocycline Tablets are not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age, as they can cause permanent discolouration and underdevelopment of tooth enamel.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Minocin are watery diarrhea; bloody stools; stomach cramps; unusual headaches; blurred vision; fever; rash; joint pain; feeling very tired.

Stop using Minocin and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Central nervous system effects with symptoms such as light-headedness, dizziness, and a spinning feeling (vertigo). You should not drive or operate machines if you have these symptoms;
• Sun sensitivity (photosensitivity). You may get a worse sunburn with Minocin. Avoid sun exposure and the use of sunlamps or tanning beds. Protect your skin while out in the sunlight. Stop Minocin and call your doctor if your skin turns red.

Warnings and Interactions

Do not take Minocin if you are allergic to minocycline or other tetracycline antibiotics; have a condition called Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own tissues, causing widespread inflammation); have had complete kidney failure. Minocin is not recommended for pregnant women or children up to 8 years old because Minocin may harm an unborn baby and may permanently turn a baby’s or child’s teeth yellow-gray-brown during tooth development. Tooth development happens in the last half of pregnancy and birth to age 8 years.

Before you start using Minocin, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Minocin may harm your unborn baby;
• Are sensitive to sunlight or artificial light (e.g. sunbeds);
• Are breast feeding. Minocin passes into your milk and may harm your baby;
• Have liver or kidney problems;
• Have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a condition characterized by a rash;
(especially on the face), hair loss, fever, a feeling of general discomfort and illness and joint pain;
• Suffer from myasthenia gravis, a condition characterized by muscle weakness, difficulty chewing and swallowing and slurred speech;
• Suffer from increased pressure in the skull (intercranial hypertension)

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking including prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Minocin and other medicines may interact. Especially tell your doctor if you take birth control pills (Minocin may make your birth control pills less effective); a blood thinner medicine; a penicillin antibiotic medicine; Migraine medicines called ergot alkaloids; An acne medicine called isotretinoin (Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret); Antacids that contain aluminum, calcium, or magnesium, or iron-containing products; medicines which can affect how the liver works; retinoids such as isotretinoin (to treat acne); ACE inhibitors such as quinopril (to treat heart conditions); ergotamine (to treat migraines); ergometrine (to induce abortion or labor); diuretics (‘water tablets’) e.g. furosemide; kaolin (to treat diarrhea).

Talk to your doctor before taking Minocycline Tablets with alcohol. Do not drive or use machines if you suffer from dizziness, headaches, a spinning sensation when standing still (vertigo), light-headedness, problems with your sight, hearing problems or ringing in the ears (tinnitus) while taking Minocycline Tablets. Minocycline Tablets contain lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. Minocycline 100mg Tablets contain sunset yellow which may cause allergic reactions.
