Luvox Information

Luvox (Fluvoxamine) is used in adults to relieve symptoms of depression such as feeling sad, a change in appetite or weight, difficulty concentrating or sleeping, feeling tired, headaches, unexplained aches and pain and obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms such as urge to perform repeated tasks; recurrent pattern of behavior, or unwanted thoughts or actions that interfere with daily living. Luvox belongs to a group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants. Depression is thought to be caused, in part, by low levels of a chemical that occurs naturally in the brain, called serotonin. Luvox is thought to work by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. Following single doses, the mean plasma half-life of Luvox is 15 hours and slightly longer (17 to 22 hours) during repeated dosing. Luvox is available as tablets of 50 mg and 100 mg.
