Usage

Edarbi (Azilsartan Medoxomil) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. Azilsartan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). This medication works by relaxing the blood vessels, which improves blood flow and lowers blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure will help prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Edarbi may include diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and weakness. Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:

• Painful or difficult urination;
• Rapid weight gain;
• Swelling in your feet or ankles;
• Symptoms of a high potassium blood level;

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Edarbi if you are allergic to Azilsartan or if you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Do not use Azilsartan with any medication that contains Aliskiren if you have diabetes or kidney disease. Before you start taking Edarbi, tell your doctor about your medical history especially if you have:
Electrolyte imbalance;
• Congestive heart failure;
• If you are on a low-salt diet

You should not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes while you are taking Edarbi unless advised by your doctor. Avoid getting up too fast from sitting or lying position, it may make you feel dizzy due to a sudden drop in blood pressure, you should get up slowly to prevent a fall. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription medications, OTC products, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Edarbi and other medications such as diuretics (water pills), other heart or blood pressure medications, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). You should not take this medication if you are pregnant. You should stop taking this medication immediately and inform your doctor if you become pregnant while on this medication. Do not breast-feed while taking Edarbi. This medication is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
