What is Toviaz?

Toviaz is a brand-name prescription medicine with the active ingredient, fesoterodine, an anticholinergic, genitourinary, and urinary antispasmodic.

Fesoterodine works by blocking the muscarinic receptors, which play a role in contractions of the smooth muscle of the urinary bladder. The blockage results in the relaxation of smooth muscles, increasing the bladder’s capacity and helping to achieve better control over urination.

Toviaz uses

Toviaz is used to reduce the symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB), such as loss of bladder control (incontinence), urinary frequency, and urgency in adults.

This medication is also used to treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) in pediatric patients who are at least 6 years old and weigh over 25 kg (55 pounds).

Toviaz doses

Toviaz comes in an extended-release tablet with two different strengths: 4 mg and 8 mg.

For adults with an overactive bladder, the recommended initial dose is Toviaz 4 mg orally once a day. The dose may be increased to Toviaz 8 mg orally once a day, based on the patient’s response and tolerability.

For children aged 6 years and older weighing over 25 kg up to 35 kg with neurogenic detrusor overactivity, the recommended initial dose is Toviaz 4 mg orally once a day. The dose may be increased to Toviaz 8 mg orally once a day if needed.

For children aged 6 years and older weighing over 35 kg, the recommended initial dose is Toviaz 4 mg orally once a day. Increase the dose to Toviaz 8 mg orally once a day after a week.
