Imitrex (Sumatriptan) Medication Information
Uses
Imitrex is a serotonin receptor blocker that is used to treat migraines with and without aura.
Dosage
The tablets are available in several strengths:
- 25 mg
- 50 mg
- 100 mg
Side Effects
The most common side effects of Imitrex include:
- Chest pain
- Vertigo
- Fatigue
- Warm/cold sensation

Precautions
Perform cardiac evaluation in patients with several cardiovascular risk factors.
If arrhythmias occur, Imitrex should be stopped.
If brain hemorrhage or strokes occur, Imitrex should be stopped
If you overuse Imitrex, it can cause an overuse headache, which may require Imitrex detoxification.
Serotonin syndrome can occur with Imitrex, especially if other serotonin medications are used at the same time, if this occurs stop Imitrex.
Imitrex should be used cautiously in patients with a history of seizures.

- Ergot containing drugs

Store between 36-86ºF.
