Movantik (Naloxegol Oxalate) is NEW prescription medication used to treat opioid-induced constipation (OIC which is the most side effects of opioid use) in adult patients with chronic non-cancer pain. Naloxegol is an opioid/narcotic antagonist works by blocking the effects of opioids on the gut and in the bowl and reducing the constipation caused by the opioid pain medications. Movantik should be taken usually once daily in the morning with an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after the meal. Take exactly as prescribed.

The most common side effects of Movantik include:
• Abdominal pain;
• Diarrhea;
• Gas;

• Severe stomach pain;

Stop taking other laxatives before you start the Movantik treatment. Stop taking Movantik if the opioid pain medicine is discontinued. Avoid consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with Movantik.

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking including prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines including herbal supplements. Especially: “azole” antifungals, HIV protease inhibitors, macrolide antibiotics, etc. This may change how your medications work or increase the risk for serious side effects. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
