What is Celebrex used for?

Celebrex is considered a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID. Celebrex uses include: relieving swelling or pain, acute pain, menstrual pain, and discomfort. It is also used to treat arthritis. This medication helps you maintain your daily activities. If you’re treating a chronic illness like arthritis, speak with your doctor about the use of non-drug treatments or other drugs to treat the pain.

How to take Celebrex

You will have to take Celebrex once or twice a day as instructed by your doctor to minimize stomach upsets. It is best to take this medication with a full stomach. Use Celebrex with a glass of water. It is best if the glass is full or about 240 milliliters or 4 ounces unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. For at least 10 minutes after taking Celebrex, do not lie down.

For arthritis, it may take two weeks of taking this medication on a regular basis before you get the best benefit. Keep in mind that pain medication is most effective when it is taken with the first sign of pain. If you wait for the pain to get worse or you do not take this drug regularly, it might not work as well.

Celebrex Dosages

Before the dosages are revealed keep in mind that Celebrex dosage will depend on your medical conditions and your response to the treatment. Only take this medication at the lowest effective dosage and for how long your doctor has prescribed it to you.

The usual adult dose for pain with Celebrex is an initial dosage of 400 mg. A 200 mg can be taken if needed on the first day. After that, a 200 mg dose is needed. For a usual adult dosage for osteoarthritis, you will need Celebrex 200 mg dose taken orally once per day or a 100 mg dose taken twice a day. Note that before taking this drug, consult your doctor and only follow the prescribed length of the treatment given by your doctor.

Celebrex Side Effects

Gas and stomach upsets may occur. If any of these persists or worsens, consult your doctor right away. Celebrex can increase your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor about the results.

This medication rarely but can still possibly cause fatal liver disease, so be on the lookout for these symptoms: dark urine, vomiting, persistent nausea, extreme stomach, and abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and yellowing the skin or eyes.

Allergic Reactions

Rarely does an allergic reaction occur with the use of Celebrex, but it can still happen, so be sure to contact your doctor right away if you observe any of these symptoms, such as rash, itching, or swelling of the throat, face, tongue, swollen lymph nodes, difficulties breathing, or extreme dizziness.

Consume plenty of fluids as instructed by your doctor for preventing dehydration, inform your doctor if you have a change in your amount of urine.

If your child experiences sudden bruising, bleeding, or bluish skin in the toes or fingers, seek medical attention immediately.

Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using Celebrex for women of childbearing age.
