Bepreve is in a group of drugs called antihistamine ophthalmic drops. Bepreve (Bepotastine ophthalmic) is used to treat itchy eyes caused by allergies. It works by blocking histamines in the eye to relieve symptoms of itchy or watery eyes. The usual recommended start dose is 1.5%/5ml.

The brand Bepreve is manufactured by Bausch & Lomb and distributed from Canada. There is no generic equivalent at this time. Bepreve is available in eye drops in the 1.5%/5ml strength.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking Bepotastine ophthalmic.

Stop taking Bepreve and call your doctor at once if you have one of these serious side effects:

• Severe eye irritation

Less serious side effects of Bepotastine ophthalmic may include mild eye irritation, stuffy nose, sore throat, headache, or unusual/unpleasant taste in your mouth.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Please call your doctor if you have any further concerns or questions.

Bepreve is usually taken once a day, or as prescribed by your doctor. You should not use it if you are allergic to bepotastine or if the liquid changes colors or has particles in it. Do not use Bepreve while wearing contact lenses. Wait at least 10 minutes after distributing the eye drops before putting contact lenses in. Do not allow the tip of the dropper to touch any surface, including your eyes or fingers, as you can contaminate the medication, possibly leading to infection and vision impairment. This medication must not be used during pregnancy. It isn’t known if Bepotastine ophthalmic passes into breast milk or harms an unborn child. Therefore, check with your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or nursing. It’s not likely that other medications will have an effect on Bepreve. However, just to be sure, talk to your doctor about your medical history and any medications or vitamins you may be taking on a normal basis.
