Imuran Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com offers the brand Imuran from Turkey and New Zealand by GSK and Canada by Aspen. The generic Azathioprine comes from Canada by a different manufacturer. Our customers may also purchase other Immunosuppressive agents such as Florinef and Taltz.

Dosage

The brand Imuran and the generic Azathioprine are both available in the strength of 25 mg and 50 mg tablets.

Usage

Imuran (Azathioprine) is a prescription medication used to treat certain autoimmune conditions such as dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus), inflammatory bowel disease, vasculitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions. Azathioprine belongs to a class of drugs called immunosuppressants. This medication works by decreasing the activity of your body's immune system. For rheumatoid arthritis, this medication keeps your immune system from attacking and damaging your joints. For a kidney transplant, it keeps your immune system from attacking the newly transplanted kidney.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common Imuran side effects may include diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. The serious side effects may include:
• Cold/numbness in the fingers;
• Dark urine;
• Difficulty/painful swallowing;
• Greasy stool;
• Mouth sores;
• Muscle loss

The above information is a summary and may not contain all the side effect information. If you still have questions about side effects, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist so they can address all your concerns.

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Imuran if you are allergic to Azathioprine or to Mercaptopurine or if you have any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions such as kidney disease, kidney transplant, liver disease, bacterial, viral, or fungal infection, or if you have received chemotherapy like cyclophosphamide, busufan, and chrorambucil. Imuran may lower the ability of your body to fight infections and increase your risk of skin cancer. You should avoid contact with people who have colds or infections.

Imuran can cause a rare type of lymphoma (cancer) of the bone marrow, liver, or spleen. This medication should not be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis if you are pregnant. It may harm an unborn baby. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects of a nursing infant. You should not breast-feed while using this medication.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the medications you are taking, including prescription medications, over-the-counter products, herbal supplements, and vitamins; especially if you are taking the following medications:
• Ribavirin;
• Febuxostat;
• Allopurinol

Not all possible drug interactions are listed here. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about any questions regarding drug interactions that you may have.
