Anusol (Zinc sulfate monohydrate) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve irritation, swelling, and itching of internal and external piles (hemorrhoids). Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in your lower rectum. Although hemorrhoids inside the rectum are usually painless, they tend to bleed. External piles may cause pain. Straining during bowel movement is the most common cause of piles. Pregnancy and family history may also increase the risk of developing hemorrhoids. Anusol is also used to treat minor anorectal conditions such as anal itching and fissures. The drug can be used post-operatively after anorectal surgery. The active ingredient in Anusol is Zinc sulfate monohydrate. Zinc sulfate monohydrate belongs to a class of drugs called astringents. It works by reducing swelling and soothing and protecting raw areas. It also acts as an antiseptic.

Manufacturer Information

We currently offer the brand Anusol from Canada manufactured by Church & Dwight Canada in the strength of 0.5%/30gm ointment and 10mg/24 dose suppositories. The generic Zinc sulfate monohydrate is not available.
