Doxoteva (Doxorubicin hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to treat ovarian cancer after the failure of platinum-based chemotherapy. Ovarian cancer occurs when abnormal cells in the ovaries or fallopian tubes grow and multiply out of control. The drug is also used to treat AIDS-related Kaposi’s Sarcoma, metastatic cancers, and many types of cancer. The drug is also combined with bortezomib in patients with multiple myeloma who have received at least one prior therapy or have not previously received bortezomib. The active ingredient in Doxoteva is Doxorubicin hydrochloride. Doxorubicin hydrochloride belongs to a class of drugs called anthracyclines (Antineoplastics). It works by damaging the DNA in cancer cells and interfering with their ability to replicate.
