Levitra (Vardenafil) is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor. It is used to treat erectile dysfunction (male impotence). It works by helping to relax muscles and increase blood flow into the penis during sexual stimulation. This helps men to achieve and maintain an erection. It works only with sexual stimulation and does not increase sexual desire. The usual recommended dose is 10mg tablet taken as needed at least 25 minutes before sexual activity.

The generic is also called Filtra manufactured by Centurion and Valif by Ajantha. It may come from other suppliers around the world. Other alternative names are also known as Savitra (by Sava Medica) and Vilitra (by Centurion). Levitra is available in tablet and dispersible (sublingual) tablet form, comes in three strengths of: 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg.
Stop using vardenafil and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
• An erection that lasts longer than 4 hours (this could permanently damage your penis);
• A partial and complete loss of vision;
• Chest pains, an irregular heartbeat, or shortness of breath when starting sexual activity;
• Signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash; itching; shortness of breath; swollen face; lips, or throat)
Less serious side effects of Vardenafil may include:
• Back pain;
• Headache, dizziness;
• Runny or stuffy nose;
• Upset stomach;
• Warmth or redness in your face, neck, or chest
Do not use Levitra if you are allergic to Vardenafil or if you take other medications to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. You should not take Levitra if you also take a nitrate for chest pain or heart problems. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history and if you have been told not to have sexual intercourse for health reasons or if you have ever had:
• A bleeding disorder or stomach ulcer;
• A blood cell disorder;
• A physical deformity of the penis;
• Blood pressure problems;
• Eye problems such as retinitis pigmentosa;
• Heart problems;
• Liver or kidney disease;
• Long QT syndrome;
• Problems with hearing or vision;
• Seizures
Avoid grapefruit products as it may interact with Vardenafil and lead to unwanted side effects. Do not drink alcohol; it can increase certain side effects of this medication. Avoid using other medications to treat impotence unless advised by your doctor. You should also tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal medications and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Vardenafil and other medications such as antibiotics, antifungal medications, high blood pressure medications, and medications for prostate disorder, heart rhythm, HIV or AIDS. Levitra is not for use in women and it should not be used by men younger than 18 years of age.
