Product Details

Repatha (Evolocumab) is a human monoclonal antibody used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in people with heart or blood vessel problems caused by plaque build-up or other hardening of the arteries. It can be used together with a low-fat diet and other cholesterol lowering medications. The goal is to reduce levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) circulating in the blood.

Common side effects may include redness, pain, or bruising where injected, back pain, flu-like symptoms, or cold symptoms.

The serious side effects may include:

• High blood sugar
o Increased thirst
o Increased urination
o Dry mouth
o Fruity breath odor
• Signs of allergic reaction:
o Hives
o Difficulty breathing
o Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

You should not use Repatha if you are allergic to Evolocumab or similar medications, such as oxaliplatin, or cisplatin, or if you have severe bleeding or bone marrow suppression.

Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications.

It may not be safe to take Repatha while pregnant or nursing. Talk to your doctor about the risks.

Precautions

Follow your doctor’s advice and follow all medication guidelines for your medication. Use it exactly as prescribed.

Repatha is injected under the skin and you may be shown how to do so at home. Do not administer it if you have not been properly shown how to from your doctor.

Repatha is generally given once a month, or once every 2 weeks. Depending on your dose, you may need to use up to 3 separate injections at one time. Talk to your doctor about how he or she has prescribed it for you.

Store this medication in the refrigerator in its original carton and protect it from light and heat. Do not allow it to freeze, however. Allow it to come to room temperature before injecting your dose.

Do not shake the medicine and do not use if it has changed colors or has particles in it.

There may be an interaction between Repatha and other medications. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Repatha.

To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Kidney disease
• Latex allergy
• Liver disease

1. Can my child take Repatha?
Answer: Do not give Repatha to a child without medical advice. It is not approved for anyone younger that 13 years old, and for certain conditions, it is not safe for a child of any age.

2. What do I do if I missed a dose of Repatha?
Answer: Use the missed dose within 7 days after the injection was due. Skip it if you are more than 7 days late for it. After your missed dose is taken, go back to the original schedule s prescribed by your doctor. Do not use extra medicine if you skipped a dose.

3. What should I avoid while taking Repatha?
Answer: Avoid injecting Repatha into skin that is bruised, sore, scarred, or hardened.
