Usage

Rofact (Rifampin) is a prescription medication for treating and preventing tuberculosis and other bacterial infections. Rifampin is also an effective therapy against bacterial meningitis. The active ingredient in Rofact is Rifampin. Rifampin belongs to a class of drugs known as antimycobacterial. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It will not work for viral infections (such as the common cold or flu).

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Rofact are nausea, vomiting, cramps, anorexia, and diarrhea.

Stop using Rofact and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Dizziness;
• Mental or mood changes such as confusion;
• Muscular weakness and pain;
• Worsening of condition

Warnings and Interactions

Before you start using Rofact, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Rifampin, rifabutin, rifapentine, or any of the ingredients in rifampin capsules. Rifampin comes in a capsule. Swallow the tablet with a cup of water 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. You should use your medication according to your prescription. When Rifampin is used to treat tuberculosis, it is taken once daily. You should follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Rifampin exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or more often than your doctor prescribes. If you take Rifampin to treat tuberculosis, your doctor may prescribe it for several months or longer. Continue to take Rifampin until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better, and be careful not to miss doses. If you stop taking Rifampin too soon, your infection may not be completely treated, and the bacteria may become antibiotic-resistant. Talk to your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition.

Before you start using Rofact, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• kidney problems;
• Liver problems

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, Rifampin should be used only when needed. Rofact should not be used during the last few weeks of pregnancy because it increases the risk of bleeding in both mother and child. Tell your doctor right away if you notice any bleeding in your newborn. Rifampin passes into breast milk but is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Rofact and other drugs such as atazanavir, delavirdine, cariprazine, lonafarnib, naloxegol, and voriconazole
