The active ingredient in Migranal is Dihydroergotamine Mesylate which is an ergot alkaloid. Ergot alkaloids works by narrowing the brain's blood vessels to reduce migraine effects by affecting the blood flow, causing migraines. Increase in blood flow increases the pressure in the head, causing migraines. Migranal works only on existing migraines and will not prevent future migraines.
