Usage

Migranal (Dihydroergotamine Mesylate) is a prescription medication used to treat migraines and cluster headaches. The active ingredient in Migranal is Dihydroergotamine Mesylate which is an ergot alkaloid. Ergot alkaloids works by narrowing the brain's blood vessels to reduce migraine effects by affecting the blood flow, causing migraines. Increase in blood flow increases the pressure in the head, causing migraines. Migranal works only on existing migraines and will not prevent future migraines.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Migranal are running nose (rhinitis), changes in taste, dry mouth, diarrhea, sweating, mild rash, dizziness, anxiety, headache, and tingling.

Stop using Migranal and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Body swelling or generalized body itching;
• Chest pain;
• Difficulty breathing;
• Heartbeat fluctuations;
• High blood pressure;
• Muscle pain;
• Nausea;
• Numbness;
• Sudden numbness or weakness;
• Sweating

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Migranal if you are allergic to dihydroergotamine or any of the ingredients in Migranal. Always use Migranal exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use Migranal continuously to prevent a migraine attack. It would be best to use Migranal only you’re your migraine starts. Overuse of Migranal can result in chronic daily headaches after stopping the medication. Migranal is not approved for use in children less than 16 years of age. Contact your doctor immediately if you use more than the prescribed dose and if you experience feelings of sickness, chest pain, or numbness. Inform your doctor if migraine attacks do not get better after using this medication.

Before you start using Migranal, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Blocked nose;
• Disease of blood vessels;
• Heart disease;
• High blood pressure;
• History of head injury, serious infection, or shock;
• Migraine accompanied with symptoms like double vision;
• Severe liver disease

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Do not use Migranal if you are pregnant. Migranal can harm the unborn baby. This drug is excreted in breast milk and may prevent the secretion of breast milk (inhibit prolactin). Reach out to your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Migranal and other drugs such as including antibiotics like almotriptan, clarithromycin, efavirenz, dopamine, quinidine, fluconazole, isoniazid, griseofulvin, etc.
