What is Exforge Used For?

Exforge is a medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and prevent heart disease and stroke. Exforge is intended to be used alone or with other medication to lower blood pressure.

How Does Exforge Work?

Exforge contains two active ingredients that give its medicinal effects: amlodipine and valsartan.

Valsartan Is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) that’s commonly used to treat high blood pressure and control symptoms of heart disease. ARBs are hormone receptor blockers that prevent the action of AT1 hormones, which are responsible for triggering muscles contractions in the blood vessels.BY relaxing the blood vessels, a significant reduction in blood pressure can be achieved.

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that works in a similar manner as Valsartan. Amlodipine blocks the action of a certain hormone that controls vasoconstriction in the bloodstream.  The difference between these two drugs is the hormone they block: Valsartan blocks AT1 while Amlodipine blocks calcium ions.

By relaxing the blood vessels, the symptoms of high blood pressure are eased, and the risk of heart attack or stroke as a result of high blood pressure becomes significantly reduced.
