Usage

Nystatin (Mycostatin) is a prescription medicine used to treat oral infections caused by yeast-like fungi called Candida. It is an effective antifungal against Candida skin infections, including diaper rash, thrush, oesophagal candidiasis, and vaginal yeast infections. The active ingredient in Nystatin is Mycostatin. Mycostatin belongs to the class of medicine called antifungal. It stops the growth of fungus by binding sterols in the fungal cell membrane, altering permeability and thus causing cellular contents to leak. Nystatin suspension should not be used to treat fungal infections of the blood.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Nystatin are nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, diarrhoea, and allergic reaction.

For example, if you are wearing dentures, you must properly clean and maintain your dentures during treatment with this medication. If your symptoms do not improve after a few days of treatment or return soon after you have completed your treatment, inform your doctor immediately.
