Imuran Uses

Imuran, with the generic name azathioprine, is an oral medication indicated to prevent rejection in renal homotransplantation (kidney transplant). This is usually given along with other medication to support the new kidney is functioning normally. This is also prescribed for the management of active rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It reduces signs and symptoms, such as pain in the joint/s, swelling, stiffness, weight loss, and fatigue.

This is available in Imuran 50 mg tablet.

Imuran Mechanism of Action

This immunomodulator works as an antagonist of purine metabolism, which results in the inhibition of DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis. DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis are essential in the synthesis of B cells and T cells. This weakens the immune system allowing the body to accept a new kidney and preventing the body from further damaging the joints.

Do not alter your dosage and length of treatment as it will be based on your weight, medical condition, and response to therapy.
