What is this nasal spray used for?
The spray is designed to help those with a runny nose that can be caused by the common cold virus and allergies. This nasal spray reduces fluid production in the glands that cover your nasal passages. Also called ipratropium nasal spray, this product is available in two strengths.
The 0.06% is used to treat a runny nose due to common cold or seasonal allergies, and the 0.03% is prescribed for treatment of a runny nose that happens any time of the year because of allergies or another cause.
It does not treat nasal congestion or sneezing. As an anticholinergic medicine, the spray works by reducing fluid release from glands along your nasal passages.
Directions
First, use your spray only 2 to 4 times every day or as your doctor recommends, and prime it prior to use. This is done by simply pumping the spray approximately seven times.
As you begin to pump, face away and keep the spray bottle upright. This will protect your eyes. If you have forgotten to use your spray for a whole day, re-prime it with just two sprays. If you stop using it for a whole week, then re-prime it with seven sprays.
It is necessary to blow your nose prior to using the spray. So, tilt your head slightly forward and target the bottle tip toward the back and outer side of your nose. Press your other nostril and shut it with your finger. Inhale the medication deeply while spraying it into the nose and breathe out via your mouth. After finishing, tilt your head backward for a short time.
Do not inhale the spray too strongly though, as it needs to get in contact with the inner surfaces of your nose. It should not reach your lungs or throat.
If you want it to work well, follow every instruction given by your doctor.
