Amaryl M (Glimepiride/metformin) is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to manage blood sugar levels. Obesity and physical inactivity are risk factors for Type 2 diabetes. Amaryl M controls high blood sugar and reduces heart attack or stroke. The drug can be used alone or with other diabetes medications. The active ingredients in Amaryl M are Glimepiride and Metformin. Glimepiride belongs to a class of medications called sulfonylureas. It works by releasing the body’s natural insulin to lower blood sugar. Metformin belongs to a class of drugs called biguanides. It works by controlling the amount of sugar in the blood. It also decreases the amount of sugar the body absorbs from food and the amount of glucose the liver produces.
