AlmaGel (Aluminum Hydroxide/Dimethicone/Magnesium Hydroxide) is an antacid and is used for the prevention or treatment of ulcers, for gastroesophageal reflux (a condition involving heartburn and the regurgitation of stomach acid) or to help relieve symptoms of heartburn and indigestion. Almagel Suspension works by neutralizing the acid in the stomach; neutralizing the acids released in the stomach; dispensing and preventing mucus formation surrounding gas pockets in gastrointestinal tract. Its effects can be felt within a few minutes. This medication is typically used 4 times a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. To be effective, this product must be mixed well. Shake the bottle several times before using the medication. This medication may be taken with or without food.

The common side effects of AlmaGel may include nausea and vomiting, white colored stools, diarrhea or constipation, loss of appetite, muscle weakness, slow reflexes, confusion, unusual tiredness. Tell your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist about any medical conditions you may have and all the medicines you take, including drugs prescribed by other doctors, vitamins, minerals, natural supplements, or alternative medicines. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor. Drugs that may interact with Alma gel include: ascorbic acid, biphosphonate derivatives, cephalosporins, citrates, corticosteroids, cyclosporine, delavirdine, imidazole antifungals, iron salts.
