Pulmicort Turbuhaler (Budesonide) is a corticosteroid or steroid (cortisone-like medicine) inhaler used to treat asthma in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It helps to control the symptoms of asthma and prevent asthma attacks. It can also be used as a long-term maintenance treatment Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD). Pulmicort works by reducing chemicals in the lungs that cause inflammation, and also controls the rate of protein synthesis in the lungs, which can cause inflammation if not controlled. When used regularly, it can reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks by reducing irritation and swelling of the airways. It is not a bronchodilator and is not indicated for rapid relief of bronchospasm or other acute episodes of asthma. Regular daily use is needed for it to be effective. The generic alternative, Budesonide, inhaler is available from India also called Budecort inhaler manufactured by Cipla in the dosages of 100 mcg/200 doses and 200 mcg/200 doses.
Common side effects of Pulmicort may include headache, nausea, stomach pain, gas, bloating, or constipation, drowsiness, joint pain, acne, or cold symptoms. Avoid the use of grapefruit products as it may interact with Pulmicort. Avoid being near people who are sick or have infections.
