Usage

Sandomigran DS (Pizotifen) is a prescription medication used to treat and prevent severe headaches and migraine. The active ingredient in Sandomigran DS is Pizotifen. Pizotifen belongs to the class of medication called serotonin and tryptamine antagonists. The exact mechanism of Pizotifen is not understood, however, Sandomigran DS is believed to bind to serotonin receptors found throughout blood vessels in the brain to reduce inflammation that usually occurs during a migraine attack and causes certain arteries to constrict to reduce the blood flow. It is also believed that Pizotifen works to lower the amount of signals sent from the cranial nerve that appears to help in the length of migraine attacks.
