Robaxin (Methocarbamol)

Robaxin (Methocarbamol) is a prescription medication used to treat muscle spasms and pain caused by injuries like strains and sprains. Muscle spasms occur when the muscle contracts involuntarily and forcibly and can’t relax. Spasms can affect all or part of any muscle. This drug is a muscle relaxer and is used with rest and physical therapy to treat muscle pain and injury. The active ingredient in Robaxin is Methocarbamol. Methocarbamol belongs to a group of drugs called skeletal muscle relaxants. It works by blocking nerve impulses or pain sensations sent to the brain.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Robaxin. The most common side effects of Robaxin may include the following:
• Blurred vision;
• Confusion;
• Dizziness;
• Drowsiness;
• Fever;
• Flushing;
• Headache;
• Nausea;
• Sleeping difficulties

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Convulsions;
• Jaundice;
• Lack of coordination;
• Lightheadedness;
• Mouth ulcers;
• Seizure;
• Shortness of breath;
• Slow heartbeat

You should not take Robaxin if you are allergic to Methocarbamol or any ingredient in Robaxin. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:

• Have ever suffered from brain damage or coma;
• Have kidney problems;
• Have liver problems;
• Suffer from epilepsy or convulsions;
• Suffer from myasthenia gravis, a disease that causes muscle weakness

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Robaxin and other medicines, especially psychotropic drugs, appetite suppressants, stomach upset medicines, and drugs used for epilepsy or to make you sleep. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Methocarbamol may harm an unborn baby. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy when taking this drug. Robaxin is excreted in breast milk. It is not recommended to take this drug when breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Take Robaxin precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Take the tablets with a little water. This drug is a short-term treatment for muscle spasms. Take the medication for as long as your doctor prescribes or till you no longer need them to ease the pain. Robaxin may make you sleepy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the drug affects you. Avoid alcohol while taking this drug. Alcohol may worsen the side effects. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
