Usage

Duvoid (Bethanechol) is a prescription medication used to treat various bladder disorders, such as the inability to void or empty the bladder because of surgery, childbirth, bladder muscle problems, or nerve problems. The active ingredient in Duvoid is Bethanechol. Bethanechol belongs to the class of medication called parasympathomimetics. It works by stimulating the bladder muscle to squeeze better, thereby improving your ability to urinate.

Your doctor may increase your dose depending on the severity of your condition and response to treatment. You should feel the effect of Duvoid within an hour of taking it. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Do not give this medication to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms. It can be harmful for people to take this medication if their doctor has not prescribed it.

Inform your doctor if you become pregnant or plan to get pregnant when using Duvoid for a urinary tract-related condition. Do not use Bethanechol in pregnancy because of its harmful effect on the baby. Discuss with your doctor alternative medication and treatment plan if you are pregnant. It is unknown if Bethanechol chloride passes into breast milk. If you are a breastfeeding mother taking this medication, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Duvoid and other drugs such as atropine, pilocarpine, vecuronium, carbachol, and clomipramine.
