Cafergot Tablets (Ergotamine/Caffeine) is a prescription medicine that combines ergot alkaloid and caffeine, and it is used to treat migraine type of headache. The active ingredients contained in Cafergot are ergotamine tartrate and caffeine. Cafergot belongs to a group of medicines known as the “ergot alkaloids.” It works by constricting blood vessel walls in the head, relieving dilation that causes migraine headaches. Caffeine helps ergotamine work better and faster by increasing its absorption into the body.

There may be a drug interaction between Cafergot and other medications such as almotriptan, nevirapine, nefazodone, fluoxetine, ritonavir, ketoconazole, zileuton, propranolol, itraconazole. This medicine may affect your developing baby if you take it while you are pregnant. The active ingredients in Cafergot may pass into breast milk and may affect your baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not give this medication to a child without a doctor’s advice.
