Crestor Product Description

Crestor (rosuvastatin) belongs to a group of medications called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or “statins.” Rosuvastatin is used alone or in combination with other medications to lower blood levels of “bad” cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL), increase levels of “good” cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL), and lower triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood).

Crestor is a very popular statin drug used to help lower cholesterol levels. It is also available as a generic drug.

Crestor Uses

  • Crestor is used to help adults and children who are at least 8 years old lower blood cholesterol and triglycerides. Adults use it to slow the progression of atherosclerosis (a buildup of plaque in blood vessels that can cause heart blockage).
  • Crestor is used to decrease the chance of stroke, heart attack, and other heart issues in older adults who have experienced heart disease or risk factors. It is also used for hereditary forms of high cholesterol, including the heterozygous type (inherited from one parent) and the homozygous type (inherited from both parents).
  • For the heterozygous type, Rosuvastatin can be used in children who are at least 8 years old. This medicine can be used in children as young as 7 years old for the homozygous type.

FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions About Crestor

What is the difference between Crestor and Lipitor?

Crestor vs Lipitor: The study concluded that Crestor lowered LDL cholesterol by 8.2% more than Lipitor. Crestor lowered total cholesterol significantly more than all the other statins studied. It also increased HDL cholesterol (the good kind of cholesterol) more than Lipitor did.

Is Crestor a statin?

Yes. Statins including atorvastatin (Lipitor), fluvastatin (Lescol XL), lovastatin (Altoprev), pitavastatin (Livalo), pravastatin (Pravachol), rosuvastatin (Crestor), and simvastatin (Zocor) elevate your risk of heart attacks and strokes, which is increased if you have too much cholesterol in your blood.

What is Crestor used for?

Rosuvastatin is frequently prescribed along with a healthy diet and in conjunction with other treatments to help reduce “bad” cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, and triglycerides) and raise “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood.

It belongs to a class of medications known as statins. It decreases cholesterol levels by decreasing the liver’s production of cholesterol.

What does Crestor do to the body?

Crestor reduces the levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the blood, and it increases the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). This helps prevent coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular disorders, such as cardiac arrest, stroke, and angina. Like other statins, it prevents the production of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase.

Is it better to take Crestor at night?

Rosuvastatin may be taken at any time of the day. This is different from that of other statins that work best when taken at night. This is because some statin drugs have a shorter half-life, and the body produces the most cholesterol at night.

How much does Crestor cost?

Crestor prices can vary depending on the dosage and whether they are purchased as generic or brand-name drugs. Check our prices at the top of this description.
