What is Relpax?

Relpax is used for the acute treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura. It can only be used as a treatment after a clear diagnosis of migraine has been established.

This brand-name medication can only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription.

How does Relpax work on migraines?

Relpax contains the active ingredient Eletriptan, which belongs to a class of drugs called Serotonin 5-HT-Receptor Agonists (triptans); Antimigraine Agents.

Relpax works by specifically acting at 5-HT1B/1D/1F receptors on intracranial blood vessels and sensory nerve endings. This leads to tightening of the blood vessels (vasoconstriction) and preventing the release of sensory chemicals to relieve pain associated with acute migraine.

Relpax Dosage

Relpax comes in tablet form and is available in two strengths: 20 mg and 40 mg.

The recommended initial dose is either Relpax 20 mg or 40 mg, taken once when you first notice having a migraine headache. If the first dose does not work to relieve your headache, you can take a second dose of Relpax after 2 hours. Do not take more than 40 mg at one time. The maximum dose of Relpax in a day is 80 mg.

Relpax is only taken when you experience migraine headaches. This is not for daily use.
