By treating high blood pressure with Bystolic, a person can lower their heart attack risk and stroke risk.
Bystolic belongs to the class of medications called beta-blockers. It works by doing several things: it decreases the heart rate, lowers the force of heartbeats, and relaxes blood vessels in the rest of the body.
Dosage
Bystolic is available in tablets with the following strengths:
- 2.5 mg

Most patients start by taking 5 mg by mouth once daily. The dose can be increased every two weeks to a maximum of 40 mg by mouth once daily.
Side Effects

Precautions
If you have coronary artery disease, do not stop taking Bystolic without talking to your doctor first. Patients who abruptly stop it may experience a heart attack, worsening of angina, or ventricular arrhythmias.
When stopping Bystolic, it should be slowly tapered over one to two weeks. If heart symptoms develop, Bystolic should be restarted.
Use caution if you have diabetes because Bystolic can mask symptoms of low blood sugar like sweating.
