Imbruvica (Ibrutinib) Medication Information
Uses
Imbruvica is a kinase inhibitor used to treat mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia.
Dosage
The capsules are available in 140 mg strength.
Side Effects
The most common side effects of Imbruvica include:
- Thrombocytopenia
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Anemia
- Neutropenia
- Muscle pain
- Bruising
- Nausea
- Rash

Precautions
Hemorrhage can occur, monitor for bleeding
Monitor patients for fever and possible infections and seek immediate medical attention if patients appear to have an infection.
This medication can cause a drop in blood counts, complete blood counts monthly
This medication can cause heart arrythmias called atrial fibrillation.
Other cancers have occurred in patients, patients should be monitored for the development of additional cancers.
Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS) can occur with this medication, patients that are at risk for TLS (e.g. high tumor burden) should be closely monitored
This medication can harm an unborn baby, and women should not become pregnant is they are taking Imbruvica.

Storage
Store at room temperature (68-77ºF). The original packaging should be used until it is dispensed.
Pharmacist Tips
- There is a possibility of bleeding on this medication, and Imbruvica may need to be held prior to dental procedures
- There is a possibility of serious infections, if you have a fever, weakness, and/or confusion, seek medical attention.
- Atrial fibrillation has been seen in patients, if you experience lightheadedness, fainting, and/or dizziness, seek medical attention.
- If you have persistent diarrhea, contact your doctor.

Typically you can stay on Imbruvica indefinitely, as long as you are tolerating the medication and your disease is not progressing.

Yes, Imbruvica can weaken your immune system. It is important to monitor yourself for possible infections to seek treatment because your immune system is weaker on this medication.
Can you drink alcohol on Imbruvica?
Typically it is not recommended to drink while receiving Imbruvica, but you should discuss it with your doctor if you are choosing to drink during treatment.
Does Imbruvica make you tired?
Yes, Imbruvica can cause fatigue and anemia, both of which will make you feel tired.
