Beware of Pharmacy Watchdog Imitators

Written by Lucia Mueller | Posted September 18, 2023

PharmacyChecker.com is an independent watchdog of international online pharmacies founded by Tod Cooperman, M.D. Since 2003, we have published U.S. and international drug price comparisons and information to help consumers save money and stay safe.

In recent months, we have become aware of websites with names and appearances mimicking the branding of PharmacyChecker.com but are not associated with our service. Watch out for these sites! These imposter sites can mislead consumers and potentially put their health and finances at risk.

How to Avoid PharmacyChecker Imposters

Here are ways to ensure that you visit the real PharmacyChecker.com website.

1. Check the Domain.

Carefully examine the website's domain name. If it’s not PharmacyChecker.com (or our blog, PharmacyCheckerBlog.com), then it’s not us.

Imitator sites seem to use variations of our name, such as PharmacyCheckerOnline.com.  These sites have used PharmacyChecker branding, ripped off PharmacyChecker price comparison and pharmacy verification tools, and have even published bogus lists of “accredited” or “verified” online pharmacies that have not been verified in our PharmacyChecker Verification Program.

2. Look for a closed padlock icon and “HTTPS://” in front of the web address name.

If you only see "HTTP" without an “S” at the end, or you see an open padlock, it’s not us, and therefore data transmitted on the site may not be safe.

3. Check the About Us Page.

Make sure the management includes Tod Cooperman, MD, CEO and Founder, and Lucia Mueller, President (see our About Us page).

4. Check the Contact Information.

The real PharmacyChecker.com provides clear contact information, including an email address, phone number, and physical address. Lack of such information is a red flag.

5. Look for Independent Reviews.

PharmacyChecker.com has received many positive mentions on sites such as The People’s Pharmacy, Healthline,  MSN Money Talks News, and Clark.com.  We also have hundreds of positive reviews on Trustpilot. PharmacyChecker.com is regarded by editor-in-chief of Kaiser Health News Dr. Elisabeth Rosenthal, in her book American Sickness, as “a good resource for patients who want to import medicines as a way to reduce their drug costs.” PharmacyChecker.com is also recognized by the Business Leaders for Health Care Transformation (BLHCT) as helping people find prescription drug safety and savings information on the Internet.
