Why are my antidepressants so expensive?

Numerous factors determine why antidepressants—and many medications in the U.S.—are increasing in price, one being that there are no regulations to stop drug price increases.

In fact, medication affordability is often the driving factor in determining medication therapy. While your healthcare provider is the best person to determine which medication is best for you, there are options to make Surmontil or other antidepressants more affordable.

As the drug expert in the community, the pharmacist is the best person to answer questions related to the cost, availability of a less expensive generic version or determine if a therapeutic alternative is available. The pharmacist may also be able to work with your doctor to find a more affordable option.Below are a few savings possibilities to discuss with your doctor and pharmacist.

Antidepressant Savings Options at Your Local U.S. Pharmacy

Discuss the possibility of switching to a generic alternative. Many medications, including Surmontil, have approved and less expensive generic alternatives. If your doctor determines a generic version is not right for you, you may be able to find discount coupons on the brand version by using PharmacyChecker.com.

Online rebates or coupons that can be used at your local pharmacy may be available for brand Surmontil and/or the its generic alternative through individual PharmacyChecker price pages. Search for your medication using the "Compare Drug Prices" search tool. Select your prescribed drug and its strength. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the comparison page. Click the button that reads "Search U.S. Local Pharmacy Pricing" and enter your ZIP Code to find printable discount coupons you can use at the specified local pharmacy.

Another option for savings on brand-name Surmontil may be available through a patient assistance program. Many pharmaceutical companies offer those who qualify assistance with the cost of medications through these programs.

I found this reply very helpful though it took a long time to arrive. I think it is shocking how drug companies can charge so much for an inexpensive medication that people rely on.
I am concerned about the safety of buying medication online. As I live in the UK I wonder if I can order them here and if I need a doctor's prescription. Thanks Julie
