Our PharmacyChecker compliance team verifies and continuously audits participants against IPVP standards for patient safety and pharmacy practice. Those practices include requiring a valid prescription, checking for contraindications, maintaining proper licensure, properly disclosing prescription and dispensing location information, only dispensing up to a three month supply as is commonly required under most countries’ personal drug importation policies, among many other requirements.
Now that GLP-1s have exploded in popularity – and also happen to be prohibitively expensive – PharmacyChecker’s work in international pharmacy verification is more important than ever. For years, the IPVP compliance team saw dispensing pharmacies apply to our program seeking to meet our Cold-Chain Certification requirements to ship insulin, GLP-1s, and other medications requiring refrigeration internationally. Yet no pharmacy – whether located in Canada, the UK, or elsewhere – passed our demonstration shipment audits. This was particularly disheartening given the insulin affordability crisis in the United States.
We wanted patients to be able to access affordable refrigerated medicines, but safety is paramount.
According to PharmacyChecker Policy 16-03 International Shipment of Refrigerated Medications: Cold-Chain Certification Requirements, “refrigerated medications must maintain Cold-Chain Integrity at 2ºC - 8ºC throughout all stages of processing, storage, packaging, and shipping, including until receipt by the patient.”
No one ever achieved this until now.

After years of conducting demonstration shipment audits and refining requirements, in July 2026, PharmacyChecker announced the first online pharmacy websites approved to market refrigerated medications through a PharmacyChecker Cold-Chain Certified international dispensing pharmacy. Patients and clinicians that use PharmacyChecker.com can view verified and monitored websites on the Accredited International Online Pharmacies page. Those websites display a Cold-Chain icon 
on their PharmacyChecker pharmacy profile, indicating that they work with a dispensing pharmacy that has met PharmacyChecker’s Cold-Chain Certification requirements.
