Do online pharmacies accept medical necessity letters?

PharmacyChecker-verified pharmacies are obligated to follow PharmacyChecker Verification Program standards and guidance policies. These standards are stricter for pharmacies dispensing internationally compared to domestic, U.S. pharmacies.

Under PharmacyChecker policies, verified international pharmacies may only market, sell, process and/or dispense a maximum of a 3-month supply of non-controlled medication pursuant to a valid prescription authorizing a 3-month supply quantity.

U.S. pharmacies have more latitude to market and sell larger quantities of medication to their customers domestically, in accordance with a written prescription. In many U.S. states, it's commonplace to dispense a year supply of a non-controlled medication.

PharmacyChecker.com policy does allow for exceptions based on medical necessity. Only the pharmacist of the online pharmacy can determine if, in their professional judgement, the documentation and situation would meet the exception to the policy.

We recommend that you contact the pharmacist directly. You can access a pharmacy's website by clicking on the pharmacy's logo. This will direct you to their website, which will provide instructions for how to contact the pharmacist.

The PharmacyChecker Verification Program requires online pharmacies to provide their customers with access to a pharmacist for consultation and that they publish a working telephone number and valid mailing address on their website. Most members have a "Contact Us" section on their websites, which also typically includes their business hours. Some pharmacies have a "Live Chat" option allowing patients to ask questions while navigating the pharmacy's website.
